GRIT Assembly Pairs Middle School Students with High School Mentors
SKANEATELES, NY (March 19, 2019) – On Friday, March 15, the Skaneateles Middle School PBIS team presented a special GRIT Assembly for middle school students which saw each grade level paired with select high school mentors to discuss a range of topics.
Each grade level, 6-8, was split into five separate groups with the opportunity to sit down with ten different high school students who shared their personal experiences with the hopes that these student driven conversations would resonate with greater importance.
Topics discussed included peer pressure, balance, academic success, social media, stress, anxiety, peer relationships, risks & goal setting and much more. The 10-12-minute discussions allowed high school students to share their experiences on each topic and offer solutions to help middle school students deal with the same issues in the future.
A total of 30 Skaneateles High School students volunteered their time to work as mentors as part of this program.
