The championship squad, which defeated Orchard Park 5-1 in the state championship final in February to lock a perfect 19-0 season, also ended their campaign as a NYS Scholar Athlete team with a combined GPA of 93%. Five OOTM Teams Advance to State Competition April 8 Five OOTM Teams Advance to State Competition April 8:     SKANEATELES, NY (March 17, 2017) – Of the ten Skaneateles Central School teams to take part in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition held on the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES campus on March 11, five of those teams have advanced to the NYS Competition to be held in Binghamton on April 8. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition that teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests.  Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve the problems at hand. Mark Wood Concert Rescheduled for April 10, 7 p.m. Mark Wood Concert Rescheduled for April 10, 7 p.m.: SKANEATELES, NY (March 16, 2017) – The highly anticipated return of Grammy-Award winning rock violinist Mark Wood to Skaneateles High School will now have to wait until Monday, April 10 following consecutive days of canceled classes in Skaneateles on Tuesday and Wednesday due to prolonged winter weather that saw the original performance date of March 14 postponed. The performance, which will see Wood take the stage with Skaneateles School orchestra students, will begin at 7 p.m.  All tickets sold for the March 14 performance will be honored on April 10. Project 2021: Community Feedback Next, District Forum Set for March 22 Project 2021: Community Feedback Next, District Forum Set for March 22: SKANEATELES, NY (March 16, 2017) – After successful shareholder meetings with faculty, staff, and students in relation to Skaneateles Central School’s proposed Project 2021, community feedback will be the next step in the shareholder meeting process. Guided by the Board of Education and the strategic planning community advisory committee, the district will seek broad community input into Project 2021. Superintendent Ken Slentz stated that, “The key reasons that we started planning for this project as early as we did was to allow us time to maximize input and generate communications on what our plans are for the district’s facilities relative to the learning needs of our students and the stewardship obligations that we hold on behalf of the community.” ...

UPDATE: Friday, March 17 will he a HALF DAY UPDATE: Friday, March 17 will he a HALF DAY: Dear parents/guardians - we continue to watch the weather patterns as they unfold and as they are predicted for the coming hours. T he ongoing winds may prove problematic for us in the morning,  possibly requiring a delay. As it currently stands, the Cayuga County Sheriff has declared an "Essential Travel Only" restriction for the overnight hours. Accordingly, we will wait until morning to make the decision on delay. I do expect that once in session, all activities including the wax museum will continue.    As a reminder, we will have students in for half day on  Friday, March 17  and will continue with an abbreviated conference day thereafter. The electrifying performance, which will see Wood perform with Skaneateles Orchestra students, will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Author David Kirk to Visit Waterman on Friday Author David Kirk to Visit Waterman on Friday: SKANEATELES, NY (March 8, 2017) – David Kirk, the creator of the Miss Spider series of children’s books, will visit Waterman Primary School on Friday. Included in the collection of Miss Spider books are Miss Spider’s Tea Party, Miss Spider’s Wedding, Miss Spider’s New Car, Miss Spider’s ABC, Little Miss Spider, and many more.  Miss Spider also stars in her own television series, Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends. An inventor and toy maker, Kirk started Ovicular Toyworks and Hoobert Toys along with authoring his many pieces of work through the years. Bus Driver Turns Everything Into an Opportunity for Learning Bus Driver Turns Everything Into an Opportunity for Learning: Bus driver Eddy Paul helps direct a group of students after arriving safely to school (Lori Ruhlman photo)   For students at Waterman School, every walk into the building in the morning brings an opportunity for learning. Bus driver Eddy Paul has the “Apple” bus parked right by the cross walk and guides or instructs students as they pass the line of buses and head into school.  When he catches students crossing safely, he gives them his carefully created safety certificates.  Paul hands out a couple of the certificates each day, surprising and pleasing students. Look who was Look who was "Caught Giving Their Extra Ten Percent": We’re all doing it, but please join us in congratulating the staff who were nominated for The Laker Way award for February 2017!    Doug Lewis and Brian Sevey For the last three months, Doug Lewis and Brian Sevey have literally been giving their extra 10 percent.  In fact, they were really giving an extra 17 percent. Brian and Doug each took over teaching classes for a colleague on maternity leave.  They each agreed to teach more than a full schedule, giving up a prep period to do it.
