Vaping Awareness Night ReCap Vaping Awareness Night ReCap: Last Night, the Skaneateles Central School Districted hosted a Vaping Awareness Night for Parents. Included in the evening was an opportunity for parents to walk through a simulated teen’s bedroom to look for “Hidden Mischief,” a presentation entitled: What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt Your Child: The Facts and Myths of Vaping and Substance Abuse.  Finally, a panel of experts answered questions from parents. Vaping Awareness Parent Night Tomorrow! Vaping Awareness Parent Night Tomorrow!: Tomorrow evening, beginning at 5:30 pm, parents will have the opportunity to learn more about the dangers of vaping and other drugs.  First, parents can walk through the Hidden Mischief Room any time from 5:30-6:30. This experience will take approximately 15 minutes. Then at 6:30, experts in the field of teen drug abuse will present on the topic: “What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt Your Child: The Facts and Myths of Vaping and Substance Abuse.” Following the presentation, a panel of experts and administrators will be available to answer all of you questions.  Learn more about this topic, especially as our students head into the summer holidays. National Art Honor Society Inducts New Members National Art Honor Society Inducts New Members: SKANEATELES, NY (May 31, 2019) – Skaneateles High School’s National Art Honor Society recently inducted 11 new members.   New inductees included Hannah Blowers, Sophia Wingfield, Ally Sell, KC Clark, Sophia Cattalani, Kevin Bean, Tori Baker, Grace Bailey, Livi Hall, McKenna Len and Anna McGlynn.   In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the NAHS program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. The program supports members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.   Skaneateles High School’s chapter of the NAHS is in its fifth year and inducts new members each ...
10th Grade Learns Survival Skills through SEF Grant 10th Grade Learns Survival Skills through SEF Grant: Five Skaneateles High School students (Mia Bigham, Ireland Walker, Campbell Torrey, and Eva Vitsaxaki) wrote a grant through the Skaneateles Education Foundation to supplement a study of "Into the Wild". The students thought it would be important to learn the basic skills that many readers feel Chris McCandless lacked or ignored. Shane Hobel, owner of Mountain Scout Survival School, facilitated two 2.5 hour wilderness survival sessions on the seven primary arrows of surviv al: Shelter, Water, Fire, Food, Tracking, Awareness, and Movement at the Skaneateles Conservation Area. 2019-2020 Budget Passes; Board Members Elected 2019-2020 Budget Passes; Board Members Elected: SKANEATELES, NY (May 22, 2019) – The 2019-2020 Skaneateles Central School District general fund budget passed as a result of Tuesday’s district voting by a margin of 423-116, with nearly 79% in favor. The overall budget of $35,288,466 will maintain and enhance the programming instituted under state regulations and the district’s own strategic plan. Aside from the general fund budget, voters also passed a second proposition continuing the bus replacement plan initiated three years ago, with a favored margin of 438-99.   The community support for the 2019-2020 school budget is much appreciated and the Skaneateles Central School District looks forward to serving the community in the coming school year. Budget Vote & BOE Election Set for Tuesday in District Office Budget Vote & BOE Election Set for Tuesday in District Office: Skaneateles, NY (May 20, 2019) – The Skaneateles Central School District’s Budget and Board of Education vote will take place on Tuesday, May 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Skaneateles Central Schools District Office. The SCS District Office is an accessible facility with accessible voting stations and voter assistance available if needed. When attending the vote on Tuesday, May 21 voters are reminded to please use the main entrance of the SCS District Office.  There will be reserved voter parking next to the building. Skaneateles Seniors Volunteer at Sunshine Horses Skaneateles Seniors Volunteer at Sunshine Horses: Skaneateles High School seniors recently spent the afternoon volunteering at Sunshine Horses in Clay, NY. Students helped to dig trenches for electric, sanded and painted boards for fences and weeded around the house and main entrance.  "Thank you to the seniors from Skaneateles High School for spending the day with us.  We couldn't do what we do without the support from our community" - from the Sunshine Horses Facebook page. Sunshine Horses aims to help horses and help people by making a difference in the lives of horses in the Central New York area through rehabilitation, retraining and adoption.
Run for Fund$ Raises Money for Elementary PTC Run for Fund$ Raises Money for Elementary PTC: The annual Elementary PTC Run for Fund$ took place on Wednesday morning for all elementary grade levels on the Skaneateles High School track. Each grade level ran independently on the track for as many as 20 minutes at a time, helping to raise funds for the Elementary Parent Teacher Committee.  Miles the Dog joined students on track as blue skies and sunshine welcomed all participants. The Run for Fund$ is the largest fundraising event for the Elementary PTC. Before the Run for FUNd$ event took place, students were asked to seek sponsors. They brought a letter home and distributed it to their parents, relatives and friends. SHS Recognized in US News High School Rankings SHS Recognized in US News High School Rankings: SKANEATELES, NY (May 7, 2019) – The 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings have been released with Skaneateles High School once again being recognized. U.S. News & World Report revamped the national and state rankings methodology in 2019. The new ranking methodology evaluates schools based on six indicators, including college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance and graduation rate. Vaping Awareness Night for Parents on June 13 Vaping Awareness Night for Parents on June 13:
Skaneateles High School will be hosting a Vaping Awareness Night for Parents on Thursday, June 13 inside the SHS Auditorium, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Parents are urged to attend and experience the "Hidden Mischief" exhibit, which provides a walk throughout a simulated teen's bedroom filled with hidden drug and alcohol paraphernalia. The evening will include the "Hidden Mischief" exhibit from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., a presentation on the impact of vaping on your children from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by a panel discussion from 7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
SHS Envirothon Team Qualifies for State Competition SHS Envirothon Team Qualifies for State Competition: SKANEATELES, NY (May 1, 2019) – Skaneateles High School is once again sending a team to the New York State Envirothon competition to be held at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY on May 22-23. The Envirothon competition tests students’ knowledge and understanding of natural resource issues within New York State.   The spirit of competition is then used to help stimulate the students’ interests in environmental concerns and motivate them to further develop their skills and grow into environmentally-aware, action-oriented adults. Three SCS Students Earn iD Tech Scholarships through SEF Three SCS Students Earn iD Tech Scholarships through SEF: SKANEATELES, NY (April 29, 2019) – Three Skaneateles Central Schools students accepted iD Tech scholarships on Monday afternoon from the Skaneateles Education Foundation in partnership with the Elsa Allyn Soderberg Family Fund. Eighth grader, Keady Azzam, and ninth graders, Ellie McSwain and Alex Moro, were presented with iD Tech scholarship certificates on Monday from Cristy Winkleman, Skaneateles Education Foundation Board President. Laker Club Celebrates National Therapy Animal Day Laker Club Celebrates National Therapy Animal Day: Today (April 30) is National Therapy Animal Day and the Laker Club is celebrating! The day will see a Laker Baker cake raffled off during lunches, as well as pictures taken with our own Therapy Dog, CoCo. Also, during AP today we are having Helping Hounds visit with a couple of puppies available for adoption and to receive the money raised during our raffle.

Second Graders Explore Habitats of the World Second Graders Explore Habitats of the World: SKANEATELES, NY (April 25, 2019) – Second grade students at Waterman Primary School had the opportunity to explore different habitats of the world on Thursday morning, as each second-grade classroom was transformed from desks and chairs into trees, rivers, deserts and waterfalls. The classrooms of Jane O’Brien, Anthony Pignatti, Kim Ward and Joanne Williams were masterfully turned into desert, pond, rainforest and woodland forest habitats, providing students a chance to experience, explore and learn about each in a truly interactive manner. Students from each class worked on presenting their own classroom habitat, before then parading the halls to each of the other classrooms to learn about those specific habitats. ...
