MISSION STATEMENT

 

The mission of the Skaneateles Central Schools is to provide positive and successful learning experiences for all students.

The schools will also strive to provide students with the knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary to contribute and adapt to an ever-changing world.  Within a caring and student-centered environment, the schools will offer a balanced educational program with high expectations to challenge and motivate each student.

The school staff, students, parents, Board of Education and community share the responsibility for this mission.

 

Skaneateles High School, recognized in U.S. News and World Report and  Newsweek Magazine as one of America’s Top Public High Schools and recognized for its high four year completion rate, is most proud of its comprehensive academic program combined with a wide variety of  co-curricular opportunities.  As a former National School of Excellence and National Schools of Character semifinalist, the school recently added a school-to- work shadowing program to its repertoire of school wide initiatives.  With over 90% of our students going on to higher education, our focus is to ready our students for the future and to develop civic minded citizens .

· Over 120 courses including Honors, Advanced Placement, and college credit bearing classes.  Offerings include English (AP English/OCC Comp & Lit/SUNY Albany World Lit), Social Studies (AP U.S., European, and World History/SU Economics/SUNY Albany Participation in Government), Science (AP Biology/Physics/Environmental Science), Foreign Languages in Spanish, French and Latin (AP Spanish and Latin/SUNY Oswego French), Art, Business (OCC Understanding Business), Computer Science, Health, Food Preparation, Technology Education—Project Lead the Way Pre-Engineering Program (RIT), Music-Band, Chorus, Orchestra, and Physical Education.  Occupational Education and “New Visions” career exploration programs are offered through the Area Occupational Center.

· Extensive character education program including team building, leadership training, and community service activities.
